My credo
The fun begins where the pavement ends
We got a 2009 Focus awhile back as a rental. They are nice little cars, it had some nice options.
Yeah, but in comparison to the 2010 AWD Manumatic Fusion I was cruising in this weekend, they moved down a couple pegs. Although the new Focus with the Taurus style bumper and black chrome lights has turned into a bit of a looker.

lol yeah I go by KISS. Keep it simple stupid when it comes to jsut about anything. the simpler it is the easier it is to work on and the less likely that I will even have to work on it in the first place.

My parents '94 Explorer pulled the same trick, just crank and crank. Left us stranded at Famous Daves up in Omaha one night. Got a ride home and had it towed home the next day. The stupid thing fired right up on the rollback and drove itself off. Something was obviously wrong with it so they took it to Ford it had them baffled for awhile but it finally actually acted up on them too (and left the tech stranded as well), they replaced the PCM and it has been running fine since.

Sooo, neither RBV's or older vehicles are imune to strange electrical problems either...

Did they try holding the gas pedal on the floor and starting it? I've stalled mine (snow covered boot slips off the clutch) when it had only been running for a few seconds and it'll be flooded enough to not start. Holding the gas pedal to floor tells the computer to cut fuel altogether and then it will start right up.

Yeah, didn't make a difference. The plug we pulled in the parking lot was dry, and fired fine.

It did it to Ford too. I have had those blips right after starting too where it floods, but it was 110% dead in the water that night.

Tell them you want a new engine because you're afraid the cylinder walls got gas-washed because of the rich condition. It's definitely a possibility if it was so flooded it wouldn't start.

You'd think a truck with 10,000 miles wouldn't be doing this kind of crap. My 18 year old 190,000 miles explorer doesn't do that kinda crap.

If that is the case, a 2010 at 10k miles, they should just trade him a similar equuipped truck

- UPDATE -

Got the truck back yeasterday.

It was the MAF (Mass Air FLow). They put a new one on, but apparently the truck has to re-learn it or something and they didn't do that.

There's a bulletin about dirty MAF's. Apparently mine had gotten dirty somehow and the truck just refused to start. They did get it started by holding the gas peddle down, but it was running rich.

They cleaned my original MAF and put it back on and the truck runs great now.

Jim, are you by chance running a K&N filter?

Those things are notorious for causing dirty mafs...which is why I took the K&N out of my truck after a couple weeks.

On a side note, I've got a free almost brand new K&N drop-in filter for anybody who feels like coming to get it.

They aren't bad if you oil them properly and make sure the MAF is clean all the time.

Glad they got it fixed for ya Jim! Doesn't having a feel good you get it fixed for free!

yeah, I run a K&N in my 2.9, but its speed/density. When I get the 4.0 in with a MAF K&N goes bye bye, Motorcraft comes back.
