Nah, it just slides out of the tranny. It’s clearly the emergency brake cable, brake lines and wiring harness.

Personally, I like the way he ran the ropes that hold the cap on through the rust holes so he didn’t mess up the nice lines of the truck.

Duct tape would only be a band aide. I’d slip 2x4s in the frame and secure them with sheet rock screws and bailing wire. If he wants to keep it I’d use pressure treated, deck screws and galvanized wire.
