Hey guys.

I just went and looked at a 2003 2500HD Duramax. The body is clean, but the frame, leaf springs, etc are covered in surface rust. Is there anyway to remove this and then coat the surfaces, or would just using black undercoating over top stop it?

I've never seen it that bad before. My b2 frame looks new compared to this one. Everything else is top notch, just the rusting on the underside.

Thoughts?

It's nothing to be worried about.

If you want to go over it all with a wire brush, clean it all off and prep it and paint it. I wouldn't use undercoating. I would use a good rust paint, POR15 if you can find it. You can brush it on and it turns out really nice. It encapsulates and stops rust and is tough as nails.

I know, Fords are selling a lot cheaper! No one wants to part with their Duramax's apparently, cause this is the cheapest one I can find.

Power wash with hot water and baking soda solution. Just like the city crews use to remove graffitti from brick/concrete. Then paint with Rustoleum or have it bedliner-ed. You won't stop it by going over it with rubberized undercoat, it'll still work on the metal under it.

But I'm with Sasquatch, seems kinda high.

The only reason I don't go with a ford is cause I want the newer 6.0L and they get terrible fuel mileage so I am told.

I've owned a Dirtymax and got a solid 18-21 city/hwy.

With a good tune you can get 18-20mpg out of the 6.0L.

I'm loving my 03...shit ton of power and it has never had any major issues since new.

No tuner as of yet, I'm getting right around 16 mpg all city driving and that was on winter fuel...should get a lot better now with summer fuel coming around.

Wire wheel it down till it gets to bare metal and at least a couple inches out around it just to be sure, and then paint it with something like por-15

does not seem a big deal. you just have with the primer 99% zink. and a metal brush and or a grinder. the day everything is not worried you've always done that. if you want. can do with the lemon juice and baking soda and water mix just before the paint

Welp, the guy turned out to be a douche, so I am looking elsewhere. Besides I wanted a CC anyway.

He told me yesterday 16,500, but when I counter offered today at 15,500, he offered back at 16,800 and if I used them for financing, I could get it for 16,500.. No thanks.
