Due to several issues with the A/C, and using refrigerant with UV dye in it, now it is getting pretty difficult to tell where things are actually leaking. I used two cans of foaming engine cleaner, but traces of the UV dye still remain. Probably just needs an entire new compressor, but I would like to be as certain as possible, as well as making sure it isn't leaking elsewhere.

Anyway, what gets rid of the old dye?

Uhhhh none that I've ever found... I put UV dye in my coolant about 5 years ago, have flushed the system multiple times and its still glowing like Chernobyl. I've washed the engine many times as well and the spot where it leaked still glows as well.

Carb or brake cleaner will usually work

You can also buy GLO-AWAY Plus, specifically made to clean away this dye

I have never heard of Glo-Away either. Carb and brake cleaner will clean it off, but you will need large amounts, as it will spread it around and dilute it first.

Tell me about it. This week I had a 202 Explorer in for a transmission "leak".

I did an internal repair on the trans about three weeks ago. Well the lady must have picked it up, drove it home, then taken it across town to the Jeep dealer and traded it in (trans was working fine BTW). Well the Jeep dealer lot checked it and saw a "leak" which I determined was just a little residual fluid coming out of the bell from what I couldn't clean up after putting the converter back in.

Well I put dye in it to prove my point. Because of the stupid location of the filler port I spilled a single drop of dye taking the bottle back out. I hosed it off with an entire can of brake cleaner. Now I have proven there is no leak, but the back half of the transmission is florescent orange (Ford's new oil dye turns orange because their new transmission fluid turns green under a black light with no dye in it).

Speaking of dye... does wearing those yellow glasses actually make any difference in how well you can see it?

I've never used them but never had an issue being able to see it with a good UV light.
