You can carry more in a bike than on your back.

Airless tires would be nice. Not something I’ve seen for bike though.
Solid tires were once available for bicycles. I learned to ride a bike on an ancient men's bike my dad had gotten from somewhere that had solid tires. It probably dated from the 1930s. On paved residential roads solid tires don't make that much difference at typical bicycle speeds.

The problem would be when it finally is time to change the tire because of wear or cracks. Imagine taking a solid tire off a bicycle wheel using regular bicycle tire irons.

When I worked up at the mine they had a few bobcats there and they had airless tires. Solid rubber with lateral 3inch holes through the sidewalls. They lasted forever on sharp rocks all day

Ive seen forklifts with those too.

Wonder what the holes are for though? To soften the ride a bit?

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I'm starting to think I really need to build an apocalyptic mad max truck.
I was thinking about it last night and if I started with 2 good axles from an F350, and a smaller truck frame, 4 tires, 4 leafspring packs, I would be at the rolling chassis stage. And I think I could do it with all used parts from either cheap rigs with blown engines or junkyard parts.
I think I could have a rolling chassis assembled for under 2k.
Even a frame from a Caddilac or something like that would be stout enough for a diesel engine or a big block. And if I run a divorced transfer case, I can swap in donor engine and trans combos anytime with relative ease

that is exactly my truck......wasnt kidding earlier...

i used to have runflat humvee wheels.....and likely will get them again.....it has a humvee engine....actually pieced together from 4 engines....cucv and hmmwv donors....only new headgaskets and bolts....few different injection pumps.....hacked together and modded injectors to run alt fuels....

dumb.....cheap......easy......reliable.
