no have to get them seperate, if you buy a van for the right price you can recoop some of the expenses with the scrap, i think they were estimating 100$ a foot worth of scrap. and sell the trans that comes with it. i would of done it that way, but dont have the room to cut one of them apart.

See that's where I have the advantage. I have plenty of room and a truck and trailer to haul off to the scrapper.

I also just read that a manual shift 4406 case will work. Now I just need to locate a 4 speed auto. Will the E4OD in the 97 f150s bolt up to the 3.9 with no issues?

double check the transmission sticky, the E4OD and M5R2 should be the same bell house if off of the V8. just getting the ellusive ford adapter will be a little more $$. but they do show up in the classifieds and ebay here n there.

The bread vans came with Ford manual trans small block adapters (or GM autos). So any small block bolt pattern trans will bolt up, stay away from the mod motor trannys.(they can be drilled and made to work, right Dave. :D)

You will have to modify the adapter and find a flexplate that will work if you want to run an auto trans. (or spend 1K+ on a Destroked adapter.)

So what about a 700R4 from a 350 4wd and the 241 case behind it? I will go check out the stickies on 4BT

Exactly!! :icon_welder:

The 4bt bolts up to the M5R2 and the M5R2 bolts into the ranger?
yes, as long as you have the correct bellhousing. and a custom trans mount, or relocating the original.

the GM adapters im not too familiar with, but that sticky should have the info you need. i know its a little different of a set up than the ford standard trans. i didnt really look into auto since i wasnt planning to run one. Kevin im sure knows more about that though.

Might be a stupid question but oh well. what about using the factory ranger 5spd and t case out of say a 4.0 4x4. I've seriously thought about converting my 4.0 to diesel but would like to keep it simple as possible and make it seem almost factory.

bellhouse wont mate up to the adapter plate, and if you wheel or plan to up the power i dont think id trust the stock trans to hold up. yea its only 105-120hp stock but the torque is crazy like 250 ish area. turbo n injectors ud be pushin over 400 ft. lbs if done right.

and Kev beat me to it lol

Thanks guys. I have subscribed to a lot of threads over there to gain knowledge from. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants an automatic.

that pretty much answers it then. if i got one i wouldnt do any modding as id mainly do it for the fuel efficency and cool factor of it.

so what would i have to do to be able to still have a OD (5spd) manual tranny with a tcase that has and works like the OEM one (push button) to make it like a factory installed option?

M5ODR-2 or small block ZF. 44-06 from a 97-98 f150 or navigator.(99+ doesnt have a speed sensor in the t-case. Without it, no speedo.)
