After experiencing the surprisingly low fuel economy on my 3.0 ranger, I have been looking into blocking off the EGR and deleting the secondary cats. I daily drive this truck and want to keep my engine happy with a tune.

My truck is ECC-V and from the research I have done, TunerPro can make files compatible with this ECU. However, I have no idea how to actually interface with the ECU. Is there anything out there that will just plug into the OBDII port so that I can use my laptop for tuning? I am not too concerned with the software side of things, I’m a CompSci student so I’ll figure that part out.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
What about using the same adapter used for Forscan? I dontrecall the specs or model # at the moment. But Forscan gets you into the Ford ecus

Will this let me flash the ecu? Also has anyone on the forum here self-tuned their trucks?

That's what I was thinking. Isn't that one of it's main functions?
Not forscan. It does modules. There is a version that can write, but it is not forscan...doesn't comm with the modules just the ecm.

Tuner pro and core are similar... the oem guys leave back doors for a reason.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Wouldn't an egr delete cause worse mileage? I know it did/does on gm 3.8s..

The 3.0.. all the power of a 4 cyl with the efficiency of a 4.0 lol. Just how bad is your mileage anyways?

Gonna be difficult to increase efficiency a meaningful amount. The drag coefficient of a Ranger is literally closer to a peterbuilt than it is a Honda civic.

Egr delete can cause worse mpg

Egr delete properly tuned will only increase mpg and engine life.

I agree if you are stuck with the stock tune. If you tune it without the EGR, you will have better power and throttle response and less throttle opening required to maintain the same speed.

EGR is a emissions thing, nothing to do with increasing fuel mileage. I think it is better to say to just disconnect it and do nothing else, may make the engine run worse.

yes....timing is changed and fueling for certain conditions.

the fuel mileage increase is merely potential with tune...but generally attainaable.. but, it is a given over time because of the lack of shit loaded up in the intake track....from sucking combustion ...

There are way better ways to improve fuel economy than deleting emissions hardware/software.
