I'd have a 1/4" spacer ring made (or make yourself if you have the tools) and mount between the 205 and the R2. There's enough splines that you don't have to worry about it. If you choose to have someone cut this out, I suggest taking a 205 mounting gasket and having someone with a plasma cutter or table which will make it easier. Shouldn't cost too much...

I've seen people put the two together with zero issues.

Evidently there are some times when issues do come up. Might be differences in the bearing retention plate on the T/C in different years, or differences in the trans in various model years. I don't know, BUT there's a 1/4 inch that is kicking my butt.

Snagged a shifter plate from a '99 F150 in the JY today---took a while to get it out since I didn't remove the trans, but I proved it can be done. For $15 it was worth the pain! Also got my fuel rail, timing chain cover, and crank damper. Will be looking for someone to make me a spacer for my NP 205 this week and the heads and block will go to the machine shop.

Anyone looking for a ZF5 speed 4x4 trans? Belton Texas wrench a part has one for $125.

For that price you'd be better off using the ZF. They're stronger than the M5OD and have a lower 1st gear. I love mine!

I lusted after the ZF for a minute, but I am tired of dropping trans and T/Cs while laying in the dirt in 90+ degree heat. The way I will use the truck the low 1st will not make much difference. Hope someone who needs it for a swap gets it before some entrepreneur gets it and resells it for $600.

Makes sense. They are ridiculously heavy too lol. But they do last a long time and are know to have very little issues.

Somedays I'm not sure if people just don't know what they are talking about or if they are outright malicious. The photo below show the 1999 M5OD R2 shifter from an F150. The shifter on the right is from the 1994. Supposedly one can just swap these and get a shifter position close to the original Ranger position. See anything wrong with that picture??? The shift forks on the 1999 are aluminum and too wide to fit the slots in the transmission. And, yes, I measured them with a micrometer just to make sure my eyes were seeing accurately. Did I miss another day of class? Grrrrrr!

I havent compared the two side by side but is there any way you can swap some of the parts to the newer style shift cap , such as the forks and the two far left rail?

I looked at that possibility and seems like the steel shift forks are too long on the rails to work in the V-6 casing. Others in other forums say categorically that the V-8 M5OD R2 cannot use the V-6 shift plate. I think they are right. It was worth a shot.

My engine should be back from the machine shop by the end of the week. Once it returns the project should start moving along again. We were in Denver last week visiting the grandkids.

Engine is back from the shop. Ready to do some assembly and get on with this.

The heads look nice!

Some blue paint applied, new timing chain set and about to install the oil pump.

I finally got some time to work on the reassembly of the engine today. Finished up the paint.

[/IMG]

Installed the oil pan and FelPro gasket, put the timing cover and water pump on (mostly--still missing a few bolts):

Had to prove to myself that the shorty Mustang headers were a no go:

[/IMG]

Put the intake on top just to see how it looks and discovered this little problem. Wonder where I can get the 45 degree elbow cheap.

[/IMG]

Then I threw the Explorer manifolds on to see how that will work:
[/IMG]

At least it is beginning to look like an engine. Question for SVT--does the engine mount with the spacers go on the drivers side? Been so long since I got them I forgot.
